Limerick
Limerick City, known internationally for poetry and sport, is the capital of Ireland’s Mid-West Region. With a population of almost 100,000 the city boasts a great nightlife, plenty of shopping and an improving inclusive cultural scene. With a history dating back 5,000 years the city is a marvel for tourists and interested locals a like, from Kings Island across to Lough Derg there are stories, told and untold, everywhere.

But of course no description of Limerick could be complete without mentioning sport and more importantly Munster rugby. ‘Irelands Sporting Capital’ constantly shows its sporting tradition not (always) by winning but by the support. In May 2006 15,000 people stood on O’Connell Street to watch Munster in the European final, the following day 40,000 people stood on that very same street in the bitter cold and rain to welcome home the European Champions.

The Arts also play a huge part in the make-up of the treaty city; with 17 annual festivals, 4 theatres, many art galleries and four city centre muesums. The city is home to 1 national radio station, 2 regional stations and 2 citywide stations. RTÉ’s 2fm also broadcast from Limerick city daily. The Irish Chamber Orchestra and the Irish World Music Centre are both based in the city also.
