Gun range planned for Athlacca
The good people of Dromin and Athlacca are up in arms over plans to build an underground gun range in their neighbourhood.
A decision from Limerick County Council on the application (see below) is due on May 21.
If given the go ahead, the club would be only open to licensed gun holders.

Whats the problem with a gun range to licenced holders? if its underground the noise will not be an issue!

Have they stated any actual reasons why they don’t want it ? Or is it just another case of NIMBY?

The problem is we don’t any more gun culture than we already have. Is it underground to avoid been seen? Will this anonymity enable people to “try out” their illegally held weapons?

Maybe this gp a contradiction, i’d love to learn use a gun and i have had various from friends of mine to bring me hunting but i couldn’t bare to shoot something defenseless but i would like to use a gun on targets i don’t see the problem with a gun range and as for becoming more like america i do think that ship has sailed. Ireland has become a soulless country since the celtic tiger began everybody is only looking out for one person, themselves.

you say everyone is only looking out for themselves, so if thats true then that means you as well. you say everyone, well i havent lost my soul or civic spirit, its up to each person to maintain humanity, i have a fair bit in my life and i would rather have a bob in my pocket than be skint, although i have been their too, but i walk every day speak a lot of people throught the day, and i keep dogs love my garden and things like that keep me grounded i also play bridge 3 nights a week , i do see a lot of people who have gone mad with money obsession, but they will come down like a ton of bricks just as fast, never forget the hard times thats the secret

Maybe i should have said most people were looking for themselves. I do remember the hard times, i do have a sense of civic duty and morality and yes i do look put myself before anyone else for the simple reason i feel i’ve been forced to. I don’t have a few quid in the bank i’m probably going to but i’d rather be homeless, basefoot and broke before i’d drown in mediocrity, with delusions of grandeur. This obviously isn’t directed at you biggie this is just my view of irish society in general. It’s seems to me we’re all killing ourselves to pay for an overpriced match box and crappy little car. For what? To give us the illusion we’re having a lifestyle when in truth we’re just existing, barely getting by in life. If we’re going to be mediocre why not excel at it and not only live witho our means but live well within our means, buy a banger of a car, live in a not so affluent area, and maybe with the lower stress levels we’d have from not having so much financial pressure on us we might just be happier. Then again some people are never happy.

Gramsci, Wether want to admit it or not…we dont have a gun culture,. well not enough to call it a culture anyway! I come from a hunting and fishing family so I do defend this idea, EVERYONE I know with a gun in the countryside has a licence for every fire arm, every one, you can not get illigal fire arms like that, you have to apply for a licence through the Gardai, you need I think 3 signatures and the Sergent to sign off, and once they do allow you a licence after an intensive background family check, you are kept in a regester and effectively known and watched, so ur not going to get away with ilegalities like that, these people are not thugs, and thugs that do have ilegal fire arms will not be left set foot inside the facility! Like getting a licence, if this facility goes ahead, you will need a licence and a background check allong with gardai approval to use the place.
And I shouldnt even reply to ur loaded comment about it being underground! Its not because they want to hide something, its so that noise will not be a problem!
I feel people will complain about anything, over ground, under ground, 10′000 feet in the air, just to have something to give out about!
ant theres even no garantee it will go ahead at all, this is only a proposal and all of the above queries will be considered before anything is started.
