  3. NewsWire Says:

Not havin a go here now ,but, is there a reason why your beating around the bush in the article instead of just saying he was stabbed?

it just looks to strictly worded to avoid saying it.

  4. Squid Says:

The first line of the article stated that he was stabbed.

I did change the nationality of the victim. however the post can be seen sans that edit here

this happened in co, clare, not limerick as a lot of news reports havwe said, nevertheless, its sad for the parents, they are in my thoughts.

  12. mel Says:

So whats your point because it happened in co, clare and not limerick city does that make the pain for the parents less. It dosen’t matter where it happened, a young boy is dead because of mindless thuggery.

  13. Bock the Robber Says:

Nonsense. Corbally is part of Limerick city. It always was. To say otherwise is just denial.

  14. Anonymous Says:

A tragic death for such a quiet and well liked guy. Roman you’re in all our prayers and school wont be the same without you.

I think its a disgrace that people are arguing the whereabouts of Westbury under such a tragic article…It lies on the border of Limerick/Clare after Corbally. Can this argument please be dropped now so Roman can be remembered by his friends?

  15. John Smith Says:

Dont mean to “nit pick” but the Limerick/ Clare Border on this side of the county, is the river running alongside St. Munchins College grounds. On crossing the bridge over this river a sign stating ‘Welcome to Clare’ is clearly visable on the left side of the road. All house on the far side of the river are in Co. Clare, and individuals living here pay their car tax in Ennis (Unless they chose to pay it online). Westbury is a housing estate in Co. Clare!

  16. Westbury resident Says:

This is just a terrible story - and terrifying for anyone living nearby, especially those of us with kids coming up in the area.

I feel I have to make the following point. Anyone from the Westbury / Carraig Midhe / Shannon Banks areas of Corbally will be well aware that in the last year or so, a significant number of families have been rehoused in the Carraig Midhe estate from other parts of the city under various council / welfare schemes. I’m not saying for a minute that some of these are not decent people, but I can say with certainty that many of them are not and there has been a huge surge of gangs from the Island, Moyross etc. in circulation as a result, especially at the weekends when their friends are drawn out here.

Many roads in the area resemble racing circuits at night as these boy-racers speed up and down cul de sacs pulling hand brake turns etc, especially now that Shannon Banks has had speed bumps put down, thus moving the problem across the road, without tackling the actual problem. There have been endless robberies, acts of vandalism on cars in recent months in what was a lovely quiet area to live in until the very recent past.

The vast majority of residents in the area are working very hard to pay their mortgages and meanwhile there are do-gooders out there moving trouble-makers out of the various trouble-spots in town to our area in the name of so-called social integration . . . [paid for by our taxes]. No huge surprise then when a quiet lad is murdered in cold blood by some thug like this.

My thoughts are with this poor boy’s family. As a mother myself, I cannot begin to think of what they are going through.

  17. ian Says:

Agree wholeheartedly with the Westbury resident…

  18. Bock the Robber Says:

Yes indeed. We’re beginning to see the benefits of regeneration. I suppose it won’t be long before the children of Castletroy, Dooradoyle and Raheen start to be killed as well, in the interests of a broader social mix.

  21. mossey Says:

Asolutely agree with the Westbury Resident above. I’m afraid this is just the start of things to come. Housing regeneration will turn out to be a disastor for limerick city. In a few years time the people of Limerick won’t be able to say “theres only a few bad areas”

  22. wally Says:

yes it does matter that the papers got it wrong when they said it hapened in limerick it happened in co clare not limerick, you should have noticed too that i gave my condolences to the boys parents, my blog was about the biased reporting against limerick not about this young lad,

  23. wally Says:

i can see big problems ahead for the people of westbury, its a huge estate with nothing in it only houses and a church which is not used very much, it has no character whatsoever i woulndt live their rent free. i can also see problems in the estates down the mill road, its very claustrophobic, one road into the estate, awful.

  24. Anonymous Says:

i agree totally with the Westbury Resident.

to think we all thought Limerick was changing when operation platinum was introduced..

now there are teenagers out there in terrible fear. they are literally frightened to death! they are talking about getting guns to protect themselves! where is this leading to??? i’ve been talking to one today…

times of “ah, it’s just the family feud in a few areas” are definately over. the regeneration project is spreading this vermin all over the city now…

  27. Turf Says:

The [mod edit …. suspect] is not a regeneration reject, The said persons family bought that house or in the process of buying the house through legitimate means as in hard earned wages. The family have never been in trouble with the gardai before, I offer my sympathies to Romans parents.

Edited to prevent it from biting us on the ass in the distant future.

    R.I.P Roman … you’ll never be forgotten …

[Mod Edit … Email and phone number removed. I will send you an e-mail when I have the funeral arrangements. squid

  29. Turf Says:

Apologies I tried to word it as diplomatic as I could.

  30. Hoof Says:

Westbury Resident, well said. I recall last year hearing of an incident in Westbury where a particularly notorious family were being re-located - or should that be “regenerated” by the HSE as they had been turfed out their own estate for anti social behaviour. The locals maintained a blockade for some time, but in the early hours of one morning the family were brought into and housed in Westbury in a dawn raid type operation.

In saying this, I am unaware of any direct relation between this exercise and the death of Roman Vysochan and attack on the other young man in this instance - so just to clarify that.

However, there now seems to be a concerted effort on behalf of the HSE to reward families who have caused mayhem in council estates by locating them into places like Westbury, Dooradoyle, Castletroy et al.

What the thinking is behind this is I’ll never know, but I suppose I can expect the hoary old constitutional “my entitlements” / “I nose my rites” argument being put forward as an explanation. Some consolation to anyone paying a life-sucking mortgage while having a pack of scumbags given the house next door as a prize for being fucked out of O’MPk., Moyross or where-ever for anti-social behaviour.

If only the HSE took care of hospital patients as well as they do when it comes to finding nice digs for scumbags.

  31. Funkyz-Do Says:

    @ Hoof

I agree. The problem is not being tackled, just moved in the hope it will dilute.

  32. resident Says:

westbury resident and hoof cum mere nd I tell ya boi ye cheeky cunts not every1 from the areas ye mention are like that!!ya we do have pity for wat hapend as we knew Roman. yer talking about people as if there a piece of dirth on the street would you like if we spoke about ye like that?? yere all stuck up because ye hear one bad thing and ye look down yer noses at the people as if ye were blaiming us all!!
Upper class areas have been robbed well before the residents from Moyross,Southill,The Island etc moved out there. Just because ye dont know us doesnt mean ye can judge us.
    R.I.P Roman

  34. Northsidelass Says:

I hope I don’t live near you either, Resident and I don’t come from an upper class area.

  35. Mickey's mickey Says:

    Well said resident.

  36. Shannaboley Says:

resident ,if you believe you are not in the same pot as them dont say “us all”.

  37. biggie Says:

i havent been on the site for a while, pc, problem it sure is as lively as ever, i live in a private area and a lot of houses around my area have been robbed, so we suffer as much as people in any housing estate. and the crooks find it easy to rob in our areas because most of us are out all day,

  38. Hoof Says:

@ resident, first of all I come from what is called a “working class area” so enough of the “cheeky Cunt boi” hard chaw talk, as I might be in danger of forming an opinion of you that might not reflect on you properly. The only people I look down on are criminal scum, and no, that’s not everybody who grew up on a council estate no more it could ever be said that private estates are exclusively criminal free.

If I were to look down on “all people” in Council Estates I would be looking down upon myself, my family and friends. So read the post before accusing me of stereotyping entire estates in this city.

And less of the insults, it weakens whatever argument you make. Anyway we have one class act here who specialises in that already - although it comes as little surprise that the blogs’ shit-stirrer-in-chief Mickey deMickey supports your myopic opinion. Good defence lawyer in the making there I’ve always maintained.

I am more than aware that crime is a city/nationwide issue. My problem is with the rewarding of habitual criminal and anti-social types by giving them better houses in areas which, whether you or the uber-liberal like it or not, have higher home values. Which probably encourages people to use “class” labels (which personally I despise).

There are plenty of decent people in Council Estates who have worked all their lives and never engaged in criminal behaviour to raise their families in the belief that such work brings rewards - either in values or in material things such as a house, car, etc.. - only to see some family who can raise mayhem, never work, claim every benefit going, have criminal records as long as your arm ruining everbody else’s life in the neighbourhood given a better house by the HSE in another area when finally evicted by the Council.

Spreading the problem isn’t solving it.

  39. resident Says:

Hoof:we can associate with what you call criminals!!And not get into trouble some of these people are very friendly its just people that come along and say ”they were evicted out of Moyross,Southill,The Island Field etc and were housed in the”(Private estates). And what would you expect us to say when your calling the innocent people in the areas a pack of scumbags you might have wanted to imploy the comment on a few of the people but that imploys all of them the way you said it!!
I know what happed was heartless and cruel but its not like the man who did it got up that morning and planned to do it these things happen at the spur of the moment!! If people from private estates go back to there ancestors were did most of themm descend from only the areas evry1 bringing down. And its not like the people from these areas want to move ask the HSE.

  40. Bock the Robber Says:

resident: The man who killed the boy didn’t get up in the morning and plan to do it? Oh that’s all right then. The kid’s parents will feel a lot better now youv’e explained that. He just happened to be carrying a knife, and he just happened to pull it out and stick it in the boy’s chest on the spur of the moment. Real decent behaviour, wouldn’t you say, going around with a knife? A real gentleman.

  41. Hoof Says:

Resident: At the risk of beating a point to death….in neither of my previous posts did I stereotype the entire populations of any Council Estate. Yet you seem to persist in saying I have tarred everyone living in them. Rather than repeat my point would you read the post. I specified people who cause trouble in these estates. If everybody was as it as you suggest, then there would be no need for evictions in the first place, would there? Maybe you are the one trying to engender a stereotypical image.

Can I take you up on this …….”And its not like the people from these areas want to move ask the HSE”…….Why on earth do you think these people who you seem hell-bent on defending are being evicted? - it’s because they’re fucking up the lives of people in these very estates. You think we should take their concerns into it?. Ask their neighbours how living next or near a “family from hell” has enriched their lives sometime. As for asking the HSE a question, sure, I’d love to, starting with “Will you ever get back to running clean hospitals and not a social housing service ?”

Again and to repeat my point: People who persistently cause trouble, career criminal families among them, no matter where they’re from, should not be rewarded by the State with better facilities than those of their victims. And if that means changing the Constitution to deny them State funded housing so be it.

  42. feo Says:

  44. Shannonbanksresident Says:

I have lived in Shannonbanks now for 2 years…we moved here hoping for a better more peaceful life having lived near the city centre…we paid a lot for our home and I am sorry to say that we are beginning to regret our decision to move here now..there is so much anti social behavioiur going on it is unbelievable and you know what is worse is the fact that you cannot contact the guards when you need them…Ardnacrusha gardai are our local station and they are NEVER there….Henry St dont want to know…at night little gangs go around shouting/breaking things and generally being a nuisence with their middle fingers in your face knowing that nobody can stop them…walkin to the shop is a nite mare as gangs of hoodies and baggies either on the streets or in boy racer cars spit/mouth off or try to rob you….what the hell has this area come to…we were safer in the city centre! Westbury will in a few years be the new South hill, and Shannonbanks the new Moyross…the majority of people in these areas are nice, normal law abiding people who live in fear of the scumbag few who rule the streets….and that Im afraid is what i envisage for these areas…sad but true..there are no facilities for youths, no garda station and no garda presence at night….I am hoping to soon be in a position to move the hell out so that Im not around to see this area go to crap and you know what? Ive tried…I have spoken to the gardai, the local councellors…I have pleaded with moronic people who live with their heads firmly stuck in the sand to speak up and do something before its too late but to no avail…….its terribly sad and shameful.
