Social Welfare payments stopped after CAB operation
Social Welfare payments being paid out to suspected members of Limerick’s criminal gangs have been suspended while the Criminal Assets bureau examine how some people have been able to acquire expensive cars, houses and electronic equipment.
As part of Operation Platinum, a number of individuals were given questionaires to complete. If they do not satisfy the CAB as to how they gained such wealth, they will not have their payments restored.

Excellent. More of it. Well done CAB and the GardaĆ.
why should we pay for these guys from our income tax. They should be made join the army. Might discipline them.

They should be made join the army. Might discipline them. Rhebogue Ranter
Sorry about your enthusiasm to put these scum in the army . What makes you think the army wants (alledged) drug dealers in their ranks?

Kate …. i agree i also know that family .. the word untouchable comes to mind. Lets hope these also get what they deserve
May 11th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
I was trying to say the Army might straighten them out. give them some dicipline. Might even change their outlook on life.
wishful thinking

put them in the army.
then you have a very dangerous person who now has access to guns, not ver wise.

If people are having trouble with the dole , dont they just go to the health board for cash instead ?
May 11th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Your right there Tony G. Those sort of people know exactly how the system works & will be down at the Health boards doors pleading poverty. Not alone been given money, when they are evicted from their houses the healthboard will then put them in amongst hardworking people breaking their backsides trying to pay off their mortgages. A person close to me has a certain person from the southside right next door to them and they are afraid of their lifes as they are due to go on holidays soon, they have had to get housesitters in while their away.

Oi!! Can’t do that. These people have rights,as we’re all going to be reminded shortly if this runs according to the usual script.

JUST REMEMBER LADS.THAT WAS JUST FASE ONE.WHO KNOWS WHAT AND WHO THE GAURDS WILL HIT NEXT.

I think its a good move!!.. But they should not just stop there. The whole social welfare system needs a full revamp. I have heard stories of people claiming in one parish and then in another. Its a social welfare market. They are the ones who can afford the 3+ children and new cars while us the law abiding citizens are struggling with mortgages and know its hard to afford 1 child not even the 4 or 5. How could you be enticed to work when you see these people laying about the place doing nothing and driving new cars!!

I wouldn’t think the Army want to be seen as a place where these guys would be given soldiering skills, least of all in weapons training.
Having said that, if there were a “Boot Camp” style of detention area set up under military control where these scumbags had to live and work under Army disciplinary rules and less salubrious accommodation than the current arrangements. Needless to say defence lawyers and their fellow travellers would fight this one tooth and nail. Bad for Biz.
