Limerick Blogger owner becomes millionaire

If you had told me twelve months ago I would be writing the above headline, I would have laughed at you. Nonetheless, here I am writing it.

Patrick Collison, who took ownership of limerickblogger.org earlier this month, along with his brother John, have become wealthy men following the acquisition of their start up venture Auctomatic by Canadian company, Live Current Media, for a reported €3m.

Auctomatic was started in June of 2007, and the company offers eBay account management services online.

Read the post. The owner of the Limerick Blogger sold a company and became a millionaire. how much enlightening do you need.

But if you had come to me twelve months ago and said “Squid, a fiver says you will write the headline “Limerick Blogger owner becomes a millionaire” I would have laughed at you.

They also got a mention on the front page of the Irish Examiner. A mention on RTE and the BBC, and Damien Mulley did a post.

Well done Patrick & John, delighted that you have exposed the idiocy of Enterprise Ireland in their funding policies - enablers they are not. Listened to you on the radio this morning Patrick and laughed at the ‘one of us has to get the leaving cert’ comment. It was really great to get a positive news story out of Limerick and I hope the fact that you have been successful will mean that more students will become interested in IT as a career and start the recovery in IT graduates this country needs. Casteltroy College must be very happy with 2008, first the win the double in the rugby and now they have produced the youngest millionaires in Limerick!

Congratulations to Patrick and John, I hope the Vulture capitalists didn’t take too big a chunk of your windfall.

    Squid,
I notice that the limerick blogger whois record now says it’s owned by Auctomatic which is now of course owned by Live Current. Hopefully the Limerick Blogger won’t be too commercialised when Live Current integrates it into their portfolio.

  19. Squid Says:

Actually, that is a fair point. I must ask about that.

  20. Squid Says:

Having looked at the whois info, it would seem that the details need to be changed.

In order to satisfy godaddy’s handover process, you had to fill out all the fields in the form. It looks like patrick created the Auctomatic godaddy account for the sole purpose of taking over the domain name. This will probably change to his own details when he gets the chance to do so.

  21. Rachel Mc Says:

Delighted for ye lads. Caught the tail end of the Late Late Show. Thrilled to see some Limerick lads doing so well. Any tips for the rest of us?!

  22. Pat Johnston Says:

    Well done
