Peace activists arrested at Shannon Airport

Shannon to Heathrow may not be high on the list of priorities for the Government, however it would seem that flights from Shannon to God Knows Where by the United State’s Central Intelligence Agencie are of great importance.

Early this morning two peace activists, who were observing a suspected CIA aircraft, listed by an EU investigation as being one of those used for carrying out the transportation of kidnapped suspected terrorists for torture, were arrested by Gardai.

Conor Cregan, and Anthony Horgan were in the public observation tower at the airport when the aircraft landed at 0130 hrs this morning.

They contacted the Gardai and asked them to search the aircraft for possible CIA rendition victims, however the Gardai chose instead to arrest them for breach of Section 33 of the Air Traffic and Navigation Act.

Flight N478GS, which has in the past been chartered by the CIA for rendition purposes, what the aircraft which the two were reported to have been monitoring.

The US government, through their secretary of state Condoleza Rice, insist that no persons destined for torture are being ferried through Shannon airport. However, Gardai continue to refuse to search these aircraft.
