Identification of body in lake could take a while

It seems that those wishing to recover and identify skeletal remains found in Lough Bridgid near Bodyke in County Clare are being hampered at every corner

A skull and torso were recovered from the lake yesterday and brought to the Mid Western Regional hospital where they were examined by the assistant state pathologist.

The Garda Water unit were on Lough Bridgid again today searching for the remaining body parts, however their efforts are being made difficult by poor visibility and heavy rain.

It is estimated, based on the state of decomposition of the remains, that the person, said to be a young person, has been dead for up to two years.

The process to identify the body will involve trawling through the dental records of missing persons, as well as examining the clothing found on the remains that have been recovered.
