The management of Clohessey’s Bar on Howleys Quay have issued an apology on their website for muting the sound on their big screen while the English national anthem was being played prior to the Ireland versus England six nations match at Croke Park on Saturday.
“I wish to go on record as stating I had no knowledge of and until today and I in no way advocate that sort of disrespectful behaviour” Said Peter Clohessey.
“I would like to extend my sincere apologies to the many English supporters and indeed Irish supporters who were on the premises and please be assured I will be taking disciplinary action.” he said.
This March sees The Fresh Film Festival back in Limerick for its tenth year. The national film festival has received a record 156 short films for its ‘Young Filmmaker of the year’ awards, according to the website, “Fresh Film’s core aim is to encourage young people to make their own films on video or film�.
From the 3rd to the 11th of March organisers hope that more than 1,000 people will turn out to join in for the cinematic celebrations, which will be hosted in the Belltable, Storm Cinema and various other locations across the county. As well as the ‘Young Filmmaker of the Year’, the festival also boasts eight feature film screenings, workshops and the ‘Mayors Family Gala’. People are being advised to book tickets for all events as seating is limited.
The “‘Young Filmmaker of the Year’ has already begun, we’ve already had heats in Dublin, we’ll be having more in Cork and Galway this week before the final in Limerick during the Fresh Film Festival�, says Emma Teck while speaking with the Limerick Blogger. “The winner will receive €1,000 towards the cost of creating another short film and a scholarship for the National Youth Film School which is also worth €1,000�
52 films will make it to the finals in Screen 1 of Storm cinema for the 8th of March, ranging in 2 minutes to 15 minutes in length all of which will be competing for 8 awards, including best Animation, Best Script, Best performance, Best School or Group as well as Best film.

The 2005 Ireland rugby shirt is signed by the entire rugby team
The charity was given the shirt as a donation and now one of their members is auctioning it off on eBay to raise funds.
All of the money received from the auction will go to Oxfam.
There may be an explanation why Maeve O Donovan did not do too well in last Sunday’s You’re A Star show. She had just recovered her voice after a three day battle with laryngitis.
According to the Irish Examiner. the 16 year old school girl caught the common cold, but was referred to the Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle by her GP after her condition worsened.
Her illness forced Maeve to cancel public appearances in Dublin. However, she is back to travelling and is due to attend schools in Cork this week, including one which her mother attended, St. Angela’s.
The Minister for Justice Michael McDowell was in County Limerick this evening to join thousands of mourners who came out to pay tribute to Garda Brian Kelleher and fireman Michael Liston, who died on Sunday in a traffic accident on the N69 between Askeaton and Foynes.
Minister McDowell attended the removal of Garda Kelleher at Daffy’s Funeral Home in Croom, and also called to the family home of Michael Liston to offer his sympathy.
The Junior Minister for Health Tim O’Malley and the Secretary General for the Department of Justice, Sean Aylward accompanied the Justice Minister.
