Hung jury in perjury case

The jury in the perjury case against Roy Behan has failed to reach a verdict.

After six and a half hours deliberation they told judge Carol Moran that they were unable to reach either a unanimous or majority verdict.

When asked by the judge if they required more time, they informed him that they were deadlocked and were unlikely to reach a decision.

It is now up to the DPP to decide if Behan should face a retrial.

Behan is charged with giving false evidence that he did not see Liam Keane attack or stab Eric Leamy. He denied seeing anything in court despite giving a Garda statement to the contrary
